New Teacher’s Luncheon
The Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce will host the New Teacher’s Luncheon Tuesday, August 16, 2016 for new educators coming into the Franklin County School system. The Town of Franklinton will sponsor the luncheon.
Each year these teachers receive “goody bags” with items donated by area businesses and individuals. Items that have been donated in the past are pencils, pens, note pads, paper, construction paper, file folders, toothbrushes and toothpaste, paper towels, markers and notebooks. This year approximately 125 new teachers will be starting their careers in Franklin County. If you would like to donate, we would need 125 of each item. These teachers are beginning their careers and are most appreciative of the items they receive.
If you would like to help, please bring your supplies by the Chamber office at 112 East Nash Street in Louisburg or we will be happy to pick them up. Deadline for items is Thursday, August 4th.
Thank you for your support of Franklin County’s newest educators.

The Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce will host the 27th Annual Tar River Festival on Saturday, September 10th from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm in Downtown Louisburg & River Bend Park. A time-honored tradition, this year’s festival will be bigger and better than ever! The festival is a family event with free admission. It is held rain or shine.
Artisans, business vendors, and non-profit organizations will line the streets for this event. Many new activities are being planned this year, including our first ever Tar River Festival Food Truck Rodeo. There will be live entertainment throughout the day featuring The Switch Band, one of the Southeast’s premier party bands. They’ll be providing a unique blend of classic and current songs, including rock and roll, hip hop, top 40, and beach music. Local dance groups will perform, and there will be karaoke for those who are brave enough to sing. Also, the 5K Tar River Run should be really great this year. We have a local artist designing the T-shirts for this event.
This year we are featuring a great Kids Zone, which will include inflatables, various rides, an arts and crafts booth, an award winning balloon artist, and a face painter. Also, you never know who might show up. You may see some of your favorite princesses and superheroes there too.
Again this year, we are featuring the River of Yesteryear, providing demonstrations of cultural and heritage-based events. We are expanding this part of the festival this year to include even more history and great learning experiences.
